The Richmond Senior High School girls tennis team saw two matches washed out by rain last week, but the Lady Raiders made the most of their lone opportunity on the court.
Richmond was scheduled for a three-match week, but a non-conference match against Lumberton on Wednesday and a Mid-South Conference contest against Hoke County on Thursday were both postponed due to weather. The Lady Raiders were still able to host Jack Britt in conference play on Monday, earning a 7-2 victory to improve to 7-1 overall on the season.
The Lady Raiders captured five of six singles matches to build an early advantage.
On the No. 1 court, senior Colbie Covington battled but fell 8-5 to Mira Rajababoo. Sophomore Molly Covington responded with an 8-3 victory over Mihika Nakkala at No. 2 singles, while junior Sydney Barnes earned an 8-2 win against Zoya Saqib on the No. 3 court.
Junior Erin Drumwright posted the most dominant performance of the day, recording an 8-0 shutout of Demi Oluwadimu at No. 4 singles. Sophomore Rylee DeCubellis followed with an 8-1 win over Anuha Bodalapati at No. 5, and senior Natalie Richardson secured an 8-2 victory against Camille Brown at No. 6 singles.
Richmond continued its strong play in doubles competition, winning two of the three matches.
The tandem of Molly Covington and Drumwright cruised to an 8-0 victory over Oluwadimu and Saqib. The duo of DeCubellis and Richardson earned an 8-6 win against Bodalapati and Brown.
Jack Britt's lone doubles victory came on the No. 1 court, where Rajababoo and Nakkala edged Colbie Covington and Barnes by an 8-6 score.
Despite having two matches postponed by rain, the Lady Raiders maintained their momentum and will carry a 7-1 record into the upcoming week as they continue Mid-South Conference play. They will host Overhills on Monday evening for senior night.
