TROY — Unable to overcome a slow start Friday, the Richmond Senior High School softball team dropped its second game in as many nights to start the season.

Visiting non-conference Montgomery Central High School, the Lady Raiders lost 7-2.

The Lady Timberwolves scored two runs in each of the first two innings and added a run in the third frame to take a 5-0 lead.

Richmond scored solo runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Montgomery Central added an insurance run in both the fifth and sixth frames.

Senior Madelynn Pearson (2.0 innings, 4 runs, 3 hits) and freshman Mackenzie Quick (4.0 innings, 3 runs, 6 hits) split the pitching duties for Richmond.

Junior Hayden Robinson (single) scored Richmond’s first run when junior Kinsie Lyerly reached on an error back to the circle.

The Lady Raiders’ final run came when senior Trinity Lockhart hit an inside-the-park home an inning later. Using her speed, Lockhart turned a line drive to the wall in left into a run, safely sliding under the tag.

Richmond had four hits in the loss — one each from Lockhart, Lyerly, Robinson and senior Jakayla Steele (double).

Montgomery Central’s final two runs were scored via a bases-loaded walk and an RBI single.

Now 0-2 on the season, the Lady Raiders will host a Montgomery Central (3-0) Monday to close out the non-conference series. Action will start at 6 p.m.
