RAEFORD — Competing in its second Mid-South Conference meet of the week, the Richmond Senior High School girls’ track and field team impressed against two other teams Thursday.

Facing host Hoke County and visiting Jack Britt high schools, the Lady Raiders continued their late-season push to prepare for regionals and the postseason.

Against tougher opponents than Tuesday’s home meet, Richmond recorded four event victories. The Lady Raiders added six second-place finishes and had five competitors place third.

Similar to Tuesday’s meet, overall team scores were not kept.

On the track, both of Richmond’s wins came in relay races. The 4x200-meter relay team (1:50.05) and the 4x400-meter relay team (4:30.01) each finished at the top of the time sheet.

The Lady Raiders also had two event winners in field events. Senior Ka’mora Watkins won the long jump with a distance of 16 feet, 1 inch, and sophomore Zarriahnna Ray took first in the shot put (38 feet, 2.5 inches). Currently, Ray is ranked as the No. 1 discus thrower in the 7A Central region.

One of Richmond’s breakout freshmen this season, Shamia Williams earned one second-place and one-third place mark. She was second in the 100-meter dash (12.97 seconds) and took third in the 200-meter dash (26.62 seconds).

Another relay team found itself near the top of its race, as the 4x100-meter lineup placed second with a time of 50.48 seconds. Junior Angelina Culbreth (400-meter) and junior Emely Valencia (1600-meter) both took second with respective times of 1:05.21 and 6:27.28.

The Lady Raiders also had two runner-up marks in field events. Freshman Natelie Everett landed at 13 feet, 9 inches in the long jump, and fellow freshman Rihanna Shields threw the discus 69 feet, 3 inches.

Rounding out the podium were four Lady Raiders with third-place results, led by junior Glenisha Thomas. She was third in two events – the discus (60 feet, 9 inches) and the shot put (32 feet, 1 inch).

Watkins added another top-three finish in the 100-meter hurdles (16.64 seconds). Senior Kymaria Wall (400-meter, 1:07.14) and freshman Myah Williams (long jump, 13 feet, 7.5 inches) rounded out Richmond’s leading performers.

The next meet for the Lady Raiders will be Wednesday at Pinecrest High School. Overhills High School will also be participating. Events will begin at 4 p.m.
