Lady Raiders Indoor Track Team Making Strides with Fourth-Place Finish Tuesday

MEBANE, N.C. - The Richmond Senior High School Lady Raiders indoor track team placed fourth overall on Tuesday out of 14 teams in a meet against some stiff competition according to head coach Reggie Miller.

In Alamance County, Richmond’s Kibreaunna Stewart placed first in the high jump, Monasia Kearns finished third in the 55-meter run, and Maddisyn Diggs came in sixth in the same race, respectively.

Meanwhile, Kearns also placed third in the 300-meter run, Chloe Wiggins finished four spots behind her in the 300, and Harmony Jones was able to place seventh as well in the 500-meter race.

"They are doing extremely well," Miller said. "Putting them running against two power house teams like Burlington Cummings High School and Durham Hillside High School helps them to get better."

Miller went on to say that Hillside won the state championship last year for the 4A bracket, while Cummings had won the last four state championships before finishing runner-up last year at the 2A level.

In team races, Richmond's 4x2 relay team placed third, and the 4x8 relay team only came in one spot lower at fourth overall. In the 1,000-meter run, Airel Brown placed 11th.

But as Miller said previously, facing the best will help his team improve not only as a group but as individual runners as well.

"We have to run against quality teams in order to get better, and this has to help them know they can compete against any team,” Miller noted.

The Lady Raiders won't hit the track again in 2017, but will be preparing for their next meet on Saturday, January 13, at Reid Ross High School in Fayetteville.
