Lady Raiders surge into a tie for second place in SAC standings with shutout win over Hoke County

ROCKINGHAM – The Lady Raiders tennis team took the momentum from its big win on Tuesday over Jack Britt High School and carried it over into their conference meeting with Hoke County on Thursday. 

Richmond easily downed the visiting Lady Bucks 9-0.

Senior Jayana Nicholson continued her success in the No. 1 slot by defeating Hoke County’s Autumn Moore 8-1.  Fellow senior Greyson Way completely shut out Hoke County’s Lilly Cummings 8-0 in slot No. 2.

In slot No. 3, senior Emily Parsons notched another victory for the Lady Raiders.  Parsons fought hard to defeat her opponents in Richmond’s wins over Purnell Swett and Jack Britt, but she easily took down Hoke County’s Nakia Stone 8-1 on Thursday. 

Following the match, she was excited about the entire team’s performance against the Lady Bucks.

“I was really happy with how the match went and how everyone played,” Parsons said of the win.  “We came off the win against Jack Britt and we’re excited to keep the wins coming.”

Senior Chloe Wiggins found success once again in the No. 4 slot.  She defeated Hoke County senior Haven Guinn 8-2.  Senior Taylor Parrish recorded an impressive 8-0 shutout over Zaidee Burrow in the No. 5 slot.  Junior Emily Buie completed Richmond’s sweep in singles by taking down Hoke County’s Adrianna Honaker 8-6.

In doubles, Nicholson and Wiggins shutout Moore and Cummings 8-0, Way and Parsons defeated Stone and Guinn 8-2, as Parrish teamed up with senior Morgan Hooks to defeat Hoke County’s Shelby Reynolds and Karissa Locklear 8-0.

With the victory, the Lady Raiders (3-3, 3-1 SAC) remain just one win out of first place in the Sandhills Athletic Conference standings.  Jack Britt, which defeated Purnell Swett 5-1 on Thursday, also improved to 3-1 in conference play.  Pinecrest, which is undefeated in conference play, holds on to first place.
