ROCKINGHAM — A Scotland County man is facing gun-related charges in Richmond County.
According to an arrest warrant, 42-year-old Tyrone Norris, of Laurinburg, pointed a gun at another man “without legal justification” on Sept. 30.
Court documents allege that the gun in question — a Bryco Arms .380-caliber handgun — belonged to a woman and was stolen.
Norris was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor count of assault by pointing a gun, and one felony count each of possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a firearm by a felon.
He was booked into the Richmond County Jail on a $30,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 9.
This isn’t the first time Norris has been charged with having a gun, according to records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction.
His most recent conviction, in December of 2020, was for possession of a firearm by a felon in Richmond County. Norris was initially given probation, which was revoked 11 months later, resulting in a nearly eight-month incarceration.
Norris was previously convicted in Scotland County on that charge in 2009, along with a charge of assault with a deadly weapon, and he served eight months behind bars.
All of Norris’ other prior convictions were in Scotland County:
2002 - driving while impaired (probation revoked, served nearly two months)
2005 - breaking and entering; larceny after breaking and entering; and driving while license revoked (probation on felony charges revoked, served 13 months on two consecutive sentences)
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
