ROCKINGHAM — Layton Allen, 86, of Rockingham, passed away Friday, Feb. 12, 2021, at his home.

He was born Feb. 10, 1935, in Robeson County, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Tommy and Dovie Holmes Allen.

Mr. Allen retired from the textile industry and later worked several years at Food Lion in Hamlet and Wal-Mart in Laurinburg. He enjoyed playing the piano and singing. He was a member of Springfield Church of God.

He will always be remembered as a man of God, who loved the Lord and loved serving him in all aspects. He will be greatly missed by the members of his church and community.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Addie Wilson, Estelle Hayes and Josephine Snead; and four brothers, William Allen, Fred Allen, Redford Allen and Johnny Allen.

A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Richmond Co. Memorial Park with the Rev. Dan Carter officiating. Due to COVID-19, we ask that you please wear a face mask and continue to social distance.

Mr. Allen is survived by his children, Tanya Yannone of Wilmington, Duane Allen and wife Shannon of Galivants Ferry, South Carolina, and Wendy Parris of Bladenboro; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; special nieces Louise Chance and husband Don and Carolyn Morrison and husband Gary, all of Rockingham; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be a public viewing without the family present Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021, from 1–4 p.m. at Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham.
