Dear Editor,
It's best to avoid discussions about religion, especially with fervent believers, but I have engaged in many discussions with Christians concerning faith and religion.
Christians are often very passionate in their claims about Jesus and God, but I remain unimpressed and unpersuaded by their zeal.
Not only do I not get what they are saying, or agree to their points, I am turned off by their assuredness and their arrogance.
I've rarely met a humble Christian who simply states his/her belief this way: "that's it; that's what I believe!" Christians inevitably try to convince me of the correctness of their beliefs — that they are right and my doubt is unjustified.
Worse, many Christians warn me that my unbelief will result in my being condemned to eternal damnation.
Again, I am unmoved. In fact, this view — this closing argument — repulses me and drives me further away.
