LETTER: Would Christians denounce slavery, genocide to ancient Hebrews?

Posted
Dear Editor,

I've got a hypothetical question to ask Christians. It might seem convoluted and overly complicated, but I'm certain born-again Christians will answer it incorrectly. I think how you answer this  question, as a Christian, will reveal your approach to morality and the importance of being morally consistent.

If you could hop on a time machine and go back to ancient Israel to a time when slavery was legal, accepted and not condemned by the Hebrew God, would you tell them that slavery is wrong; that they should not accept it, and that slavery should be condemned? And would you tell them, that no matter what God commands, that they (the Hebrews) should not slaughter enemy women, children and the the animals of the field.

"Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys." God: (Samuel: 15:2-3)

So, what would you Christian hotshots tell the ancient Hebrews? Would you tell them that owning people as property is always wrong? Would you tell them genocide is always wrong?
