ROCKINGHAM — Before she heads off to start her college basketball career, Jamyia Lindsey will play in a final premiere high school senior showcase game.
Lindsey, the all-time leading scorer for Richmond Senior High School girls’ basketball program, was named to the 2025 East-West All-Star Game this week.
The East-West All-Star Game, which was started in 1949 by former coaching great Bob Jamieson to help fund the North Carolina Coaches Association coaching clinic, has become one of the state’s biggest opportunities to showcase top talent.
Since then, the annual event features some of the top student-athletes from across the state who are recent high school graduates. Contests are held for boys’ and girls’ basketball, football and boys’ and girls’ soccer.
With her selection, Lindsey becomes the first Lady Raider basketball player in recent memory to make the roster.
For the school’s boys’ basketball program, Paul McNeil Jr. (2024) and Nygie Stroman (2021) were selected to play in the senior showcase. McNeil Jr. didn’t play due to early enrollment at North Carolina State University and Stroman helped the East team to a 116-92 win.
“Being selected for this game means a lot to me,” Lindsey said. “I’m honored to be selected as one of the best players on the East side of the state and I’m very thankful that my hard work this year didn’t go unnoticed.”
Capping a four-year varsity career earlier this winter, Lindsey served as a cornerstone in the program. Her senior season was coached by her mom, Taneika Reader, which culminated in the Lady Raiders’ second straight trip to the fourth round of the NCHSAA 4A East playoffs.
Finishing her career with 2,075 points, Lindsey was the Sandhills Athletic Conference Player of the Year during her freshman, sophomore and senior (co-player) seasons. She missed all but four games her sophomore year due to a knee injury.
This past season, Lindsey scored 23.5 points per game and averaged 5.5 rebounds, 3.8 steals and 2.8 assists per four quarters. She shot 43% from the field and made 59 three-pointers (32%).
While her official playing career may be done at Richmond, Lindsey said she wants to show out for the Raider diamond one last time.
“I hope to represent Richmond by having a solid performance in the East-West game,” Lindsey shared. “Hopefully I will play well enough to earn MVP and show that Richmond County has top talent as well.”
Earlier this school year, Lindsey signed her National Letter of Intent to North Carolina A&T State University, where she’ll enroll as a freshman point guard later this summer.
“I think this game will prepare me for college by allowing me to play against other highly-skilled players,” Lindsey said. “And it will also allow me to have other highly-skilled players on my team and give me the opportunity to get used to that skill level since everyone will be good in college.”
Official rosters for the East and West teams have not been officially released by the NCCA.
Lindsey and the East team will tip-off against the West All-Stars Monday, July 21, at 6:30 p.m. The game will be played at the Greensboro Coliseum.
