GREENSBORO — Given the opportunity to shine one final time as a representative of Richmond Senior High School, Jamyia Lindsey showed out on the hardwood earlier this month.
Selected to the North Carolina Coaches Association’s East-West All-Star Game, an annual showcase for recently graduated players, Lindsey helped the East team to victory.
Playing at Novant Fieldhouse, the East All-Stars cruised to a 97-85 win on July 21. Controlling the game from the start, the East team led at the end of all four quarters, including a 52-42 lead at halftime.
Lindsey, the most prolific scorer in Lady Raider history, showcased her skills in the senior sendoff. She finished with 13 points on 4-of-10 from the field, including a pair of three pointers, which was second-most on the team.
Adding five assists, two steals and two rebounds, Lindsey logged 23 minutes played, which led the East. One of four double-digit scorers in the win, Lindsey trailed only Jasmine Nivar (25 points) in scoring for the East.
Building relationships with her East teammates was a plus for Lindsey, who added that her game performance picked up in the second half.
“Overall, the experience was great and I’m thankful to have been selected for the game,” Lindsey shared. “Meeting other girls from all over the state and bonding with them was great and I really had fun.
“I think I had a solid performance,” she continued. “I felt very impactful on the defensive end the whole game. My scoring picked up in the second half. After seeing the flow of the game, I took more shots and they started falling.”
An incoming freshman point guard at North Carolina A&T State University, Lindsey said she’s excited for her future playing career with the Aggies. But at the same time, she was excited and honored to don the Raider diamond one final time.
Another bonus was seeing an overwhelming number of Richmond and personal fans attending the game. The win was a nice cap to her career, too.
“Representing Richmond is always a great feeling, whether I’m in a Raider jersey or not,” Lindsey said. “Seeing all the support from Richmond County and a few Raider shirts made this moment even more special and showed how much support I have from the county once again.
“Getting the W was mandatory being that this was my last high school game representing Richmond,” she added with a laugh.
Lindsey will report to NC A&T full time next month and play basketball while pursuing a career in athletic training. The East-West All-Star Game, while a cherry on top of her high school career, was also an insight to what she’ll see at the collegiate level.
“This game gave me a preview of what playing with other elite level players will be like in college,” Lindsey closed.
“This game also was great because I got a chance to play with elite post players which is important since I’ll be playing with a few dominant post players at A&T.”
