HAMLET — The Seaboard City kicks off the fourth season of the Boxcar Concert Series Friday evening with a first-time band — Good Company — and a ribbon-cutting.

The band — featuring guitarist and vocalist Eric Whitfield, guitarist Brian Grooms, drummer Eddie Brown and bassist Phil Burgess — has a set list that includes country and classic rock covers. Founding member Chuck Smith will also return on guitar and keyboard.

While this is the band’s debut in the Hamlet music series, Smith and Brown have performed in previous years with the Safety Committee.

The Boxcar Concert series began in 2022 on Sunday afternoons, but was moved to Friday’s to coincide with TGIFriday Food Trucks on Main. The food truck lineup for this week is: Puckered Up Lemonade; Max’s Millstone BBQ; Erica’s Cake Factory; Mama Blair’s Wings & Things; and Chinese Food and Dulce’s Delicias.

Food trucks will begin serving at 11 a.m. in the Depot parking lot and the concert runs from 6-8 p.m. in Main Street Park.

Other bands scheduled to perform in 2025 are:

May 23 - River Ridge Bluegrass Band

June 27 - Eddie Jacobs Band

July 25 - The Radio

Aug. 22 - Jonathan Robinson Band

Sept. 26 - Vagabond

Oct. 24 - Erik Hawks and the Hard Luck Band

Just before the band starts, the city will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the recently repainted 1114 Seaboard Air Line Railroad Locomotive at 5:30 p.m.

CSX donated the locomotive to the National Railroad Hall of Fame and Museum, which in turn loaned it to the city.

Next week, Rockingham welcomes back the Entertainers for the 2025 Plaza Jam Concert Series.
