ROCKINGHAM — A man is facing multiple charges from two Richmond County law enforcement agencies for alleged offenses over the past 11 months.
According to one warrant, 24-year-old Chistian Elijah Sturdivant refused to be handcuffed by a Hamlet Police officer who was trying to take him into custody on an order for arrest on April 13, 2025.
Court records show an OFA was issued Oct. 30, 2023 when Sturdivant failed to appear in court on a charge of misdemeanor larceny.
Sturdivant allegedly ran from the officer and refused to stop upon command.
According to records, the larceny case was dismissed with leave on May 10, 2024, but served with the OFA during his arrest on March 18.
On May 18, 2025, Sturdivant allegedly stole several items, including soap and socks, from the Rockingham Walmart, and later ran from an officer with the Rockingham Police Department.
Sturdivant is also accused of breaking into a building on Cauthen Drive “with the intent to terrorize an occupant” on Aug. 10, 2025. While police were reportedly investigating a domestic disturbance that day, Sturdivant allegedly ran from two RPD officers, pushing one of them.
On March 18, two RPD officers were reportedly investigating a call of a breaking and entering and attempted to take Sturdivant into custody. The defendant allegedly pulled away from the officers and tried to run, pushing one and elbowing the other in the “mouth area.”
Sturdivant is charged with: six misdemeanor counts of resisting a public officer; three misdemeanor counts of assault on a government official or employee; one felony count of breaking and entering to terrorize or injure; and two counts of misdemeanor larceny.
(NOTE: Jail records only show one count of misdemeanor larceny, but the RO is unsure if it is the case from 2023 or 2025.)
He was booked into the Richmond County Jail where he is being held on a combined $28,000 secured bond. Sturdivant is scheduled to appear in court April 2.
Online court records show that several traffic cases were also dismissed with leave after Sturdivant failed to appear in court.
Records also show that Sturdivant was charged by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office in 2023 with five counts of resisting a public officer and one count of assault on a government employee. He was found guilty on one count of resisting and the other charges were dismissed without a plea deal. He still owes $588.78 in court costs from that case.
Sturdivant also owes $ 2,726.22 in a 2019 court case.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
