ROCKINGHAM — A deputy’s pants were reportedly damaged after a man with an outstanding warrant allegedly tried to run.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, deputies went to a home on Hannah Pickett Church Street to arrest 46-year-old Michael Kevin Allen on a warrant for communicating threats on July 25.

The incident and issuance date on the warrant is June 22. The female complainant alleges that Allen threatened to break her jaw and kill her.

Deputies were reportedly granted access to the home and found Allen hiding under a bed. The defendant was reportedly placed in custody and taken to the magistrate’s office.

When leaving the magistrate’s office, the sheriff’s office says Allen ran from the deputy but was caught after a short foot chase. According to the warrant, the deputy’s uniform pants were damaged.

Allen was additionally charged with resisting a public officer and damage to personal property.

Records show Allen was held without bond over the weekend. However, his bail was set on July 28: $15,000 secured for the initial warrant; $10,000 secured for the subsequent charges. He is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 18.

According to court records, Allen had only been out on bail two days for communicating threats — for allegedly threatening to kill the same victim on June 17 — before reportedly making the June 22 threat.

Allen has another pending charge of injury to personal property for allegedly breaking out the passenger-side window of a 2016 Ford Transit Connect.

Records show Allen also has pending charges of interfering with emergency communication and injury to personal property for allegedly smashing a woman’s phone with a stick while she was trying to call 911 on Jan. 22.

Online court records show Allen was convicted of assault on a female in March, with two other charges being dismissed. He was also convicted of assault on a government employee and assault on a female in October 2024.

Those convictions are not listed with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction, however records show Allen has an extensive criminal history of assault.

He was first convicted in 1998 of breaking and entering and both misdemeanor and felony counts of larceny, then of injury to personal property and communicating threats the following year.

In 2000, Allen was convicted on two counts of misdemeanor breaking and entering, and one misdemeanor count each of larceny, injury to personal property, assault on a female and resisting a public officer.

Allen was subsequently convicted in 2001 of assault on a female and assault inflicting serious injury, then in 2003 of assault inflicting serious injury and larceny from the person.
