Man accused of shooting into car north of Ellerbe

ELLERBE — A Richmond County man is facing charges after allegedly shooting into an occupied car over the weekend.

According to an arrest warrant, 23-year-old Sideney Dillon Pittman fired a Mossberg 500A 12-gauge shotgun into the rear of a 2023 Dodge Challenger RT occupied by a male and female on Sunday, Dec. 14.

The incident reportedly happened between Pittman’s address and a neighboring house on Jones Springs Church Road, northeast of Ellerbe, on the west side of the bypass.

Pittman was arrested Dec. 15 and charged with a single felony count of discharging a weapon into an occupied property and a misdemeanor count of injury to personal property.

He was booked into the Richmond County Jail where he is being held on a $200,000 secured bond.

Court records show Pittman had been charged with two counts each of assault by pointing a gun and cyberstalking in June, but the charges were dismissed later that month.

Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction do not show any prior convictions. However, online court records show Pittman was convicted of driving while license revoked in March.

A release order also mentions a prior conviction of injury to personal property, but the RO could not find any records related to that charge.

Per the order, if and when Pittman is released on bail, he is prohibited from possessing firearms and having contact with the reported victims in the case.

Pittman is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 8, 2026.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
