ROCKINGHAM — Police have charged a man for allegedly stealing from a local laundromat.
According to an arrest warrant, taken out by the Rockingham Police Department, 29-year-old Kendrick Raheem Jenkins used a concrete brick to break a glass door at the Maytag Laundromat on Biltmore Drive on March 6.
Once inside, Jenkins allegedly stole a cash register containing $152.
The warrant lists an address for Jenkins on Airport Road, but also indicates that he is “homeless at times.”
Jenkins was arrested and charged with one felony count each of breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and possession of burglary tools, as well as one misdemeanor count of damage to property.
He was booked into the Richmond County Jail at 12:49 a.m. March 7 and held on a $25,000 secured bond. Jenkins is scheduled to appear in court March 20.
Court records show Jenkins was issued a citation in September 2024 for second-degree trespassing after allegedly being told to leave Walmart.
Records related to that case show an address on Palisade Circle.
According to court records, Jenkins’ most recent appearance in that case was Jan. 16. However, it is marked as “called and failed,” but no order for arrest for failure to appear was issued.
As of this writing, there was no future court date related to that charge.
Jenkins’ only prior conviction was in 2015 for robbery with a dangerous weapon, according to records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction. He served three months and seven days shy of three years in prison and was released from parole in 2019.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
