ROCKINGHAM — A man is facing several criminal charges after allegedly trying to point a gun at a deputy.
An arrest warrant alleges that 47-year-old Derrick Jerome Green attempted to point a gun at a deputy with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office while the deputy was “investigating a call for service” on Tuesday, June 2.
Green is also accused of refusing commands from that deputy and two others to “take (the) gun out of his hand.”
According to the warrant, it appears the gun was a .380-caliber semi-automatic pistol.
Green was arrested and charged with a felony count of assault on a law enforcement, probation or parole officer with a firearm, as well as one misdemeanor count each of resisting a public officer and carrying a concealed gun.
He is being held without bond in the Richmond County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court June 18.
Jail records show Green is also being held on a $2,877 cash bond on two counts of failure to comply with nonsupport in Scotland County and a $631.91 cash bond on two counts of failure to comply with nonsupport in Cabarrus County.
Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Green was convicted in 2022 of maintaining any place for a controlled substance and was given a suspended sentence.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
