Man charged after running from Richmond County law enforcement

ROCKINGHAM — A man wanted on criminal charges was arrested after running from law enforcement on Friday.

Deputies from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Rockingham swarmed the area of the 220 overpass on Midway Road late Friday morning after 19-year-old Andru Bryson Deberry reportedly jumped and ran.

He was apprehended a short time later.

According to the sheriff’s office, Deberry was wanted on breaking and entering charges.

Records with the Richmond County Jail, he is charged with breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering and is being held under a $5,000 secured bond.

Deberry also has a combined $10,000 unsecured bond for two counts of resisting a public officer and a $15,000 unsecured bond on the following charges: manufacturing marijuana; possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule VI controlled substance; altering or removing a gun’s serial number; having an expired registration card; having an expired or no registration; and driving with a revoked license.

He is scheduled to appear in court May 18.

Deberry was given a suspended sentence last May when he was convicted of fleeing to elude arrest, resisting a public officer and aggressive driving.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
