ROCKINGHAM — A Richmond County man is facing drug charges and is accused of not stopping for a deputy.
According to an arrest warrant, a deputy attempted to stop a 1995 Nissan pickup truck on U.S. 1 Nov. 27 for having a fictitious license plate.
The driver, according to the warrant, refused to stop, driving recklessly and speeding in excess of 15 mph over the speed limit.
The driver, 28-year-old Austin Dwayne Brigman, had an unspecified quantity of methamphetamine and fentanyl in the truck, according to the warrant.
Brigman was arrested and charged with: fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle; possession of methamphetamine; possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver methamphetamine; possession of a Schedule II controlled substance; and maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance.
He was also issued eight traffic citations.
Brigman was booked into the Richmond County Jail where he is being held on a $150,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 12 for the criminal charges and Jan. 16 for the traffic infractions.
Online court records show Brigman has a pending charge of possession of drug paraphernalia and several pending traffic infractions.
Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Brigman was convicted in 2021 of driving while license revoked.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
