WINDBLOW — The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has charged a man with murder following a late-morning shooting on Friday.

According to the sheriff’s office, a call was made to the Richmond County 911 Center around 11:47 a.m. May 22 to report a shooting in the Windblow community, located in the northeast corner of the county near the borders with Montgomery and Moore counties.

The RCSO released a brief statement just before 4:30 p.m. that day, noting that one individual was dead and another had been taken into custody.

Records show that 64-year-old Michael Thomas Long, who has a listed address on Windblow Road, was booked into the Richmond County Jail at 7:54 p.m. Friday.

Long is charged with an open count of murder in the death of Lacy Kyser Jackson, according to one arrest warrant. He is also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon for allegedly having a 12-guage pump shotgun.

Records show Long is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on June 4.

Online court records show Long has two pending traffic citations for failure to wear a seat belt and operating a vehicle with no insurance.

Long was convicted in 2009 on a felony count of possession or distribution of a meth precursor and was given a suspended sentence, according to records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
