HOFFMAN — A man is facing multiple charges in three counties after allegedly trying to elude law enforcement.

A magistrate’s order, dated Jan. 17, alleges that 47-year-old Daniel Shane Perkins, of Jackson Springs, was driving left of center on Hoffman Road and investigated for driving while impaired by a deputy with the Moore County Sheriff’s Office.

Perkins allegedly failed to comply with “clear commands” to exit his vehicle multiple times.

He was charged with resisting a public officer, driving while impaired, driving left of center, reckless driving with wanton disregard and failing to heed a light or siren.

Records show he was given a $3,500 secured bond and released on bail the following day.

Following his release, Perkins allegedly refused to comply with commands and drove off from a traffic stop while Candor Police Chief Stephen Baldwin was investigating a wreck with a possible intoxicated driver.

Another warrant alleges that Perkins fled from a deputy with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office who was investigating a call of a suspicious vehicle near Exit 25 on Interstate 73/74.

Perkins is also accused of fleeing from another deputy who was trying to find him, driving in excess of 15 mph above the posted speed limit on Ellerbe Tower Road in Hoffman, as well as driving his 2020 Buick Envision into the patrol vehicle of another deputy.

(NOTE: There are two warrants with differing file numbers describing the same events.)

Other warrants allege that Perkins eluded deputies with the Moore County Sheriff’s Office, driving 75 mph down Windblow Road.

During the chase, Perkins allegedly drove off the road and into the other lane on Windblow Road, N.C. 73 and Derby Road. He is also accused of driving toward deputies with the Moore County Sheriff’s Office.

Online court records show Perkins was also cited Jan. 15 in Moore County for possession of stolen property (a registration plate), having no liability insurance, displaying a fictitious tag, and driving a vehicle with no registration.
