ROCKINGHAM — A Richmond County man is accused of trying to solicit children through a social media app.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office announced on Monday the arrest of 28-year-old Irving William Duncan Hasbrouck-Miller, of Marston, on two felony counts of soliciting a child by computer.
The RCSO did not release any details in its Facebook post.
However, an arrest warrant alleges that on Sept. 4, Hasbrouck-Miller used Snapchat on a cellphone to entice children — whom he believed to be 12 and 10 years old — to meet with him for intercourse.
Hasbrouck-Miller was arrested on Sunday, Sept. 6 and booked into the Richmond County Jail where he is being held on a $50,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 17.
The defendant appears to have no other pending charges or prior criminal convictions in North Carolina.
The release order states that Hasbrouck-Miller had criminal charges in New York late last year, but the magistrate was unable to determine the outcome.
Hasbrouck-Miller reportedly moved to North Carolina in July.
Because his conduct was “directed toward minors,” the release order states that a secured bond “is necessary to secure the defendant’s appearance in court and for the protection of minors.”
The sheriff’s office said: “Additional information will be forthcoming as the investigation continues.”
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
