Meth, opiate trafficking charges filed in Richmond County

ROCKINGHAM — Investigators with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office have filed drug trafficking and other drug charges against a man previously convicted on violent charges.

According to an arrest warrant, Fletcher Delaine Bryant, 37, of Rockingham, was found in possession of more than 28 grams of meth, between 4 and 14 grams of “opium” and 129.3 grams (4.5 ounces) of marijuana.

Bryant was also allegedly in possession of digital scales and clear plastic baggies, as well as a Century Arms-Canik Mete MC9 9mm handgun.

He was arrested Sept. 25 and charged with: trafficking in methamphetamine; trafficking in opium or heroin; possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver marijuana; possession of a firearm by a felon; and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Bryant was booked into the Richmond County Jail where he is being held on a combined $140,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 9.

Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Bryant served just short of five years in prison following a 2013 conviction for robbery with a dangerous weapon. Several months after his release in 2018, he served another year on a post-release revocation.

Bryant was first convicted on two counts of breaking and entering vending machines in 2004. His initial probation was revoked the following year and he was incarcerated for about six weeks.

Other prior convictions include:

2007 - simple assault 

2009 - driving while impaired (two counts); discharging a firearm into an occupied property; receiving stolen goods; other misdemeanant

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
