EAST ROCKINGHAM - Two persons were airlifted to hospitals after an automobile accident on Mizpah Road.
The wreck occurred on Saturday night around 7:30 p.m.
Both occupants of a burgundy Chevrolet pickup were transported to hospitals outside the area.
Two landing zones were set up by county first responders: one at the Richmond County Airport and the other at a field across from Burlington Industries in Cordova.
A head injury of one and a possible broken leg for the other were the injuries of the two who were transported to the hospital by helicopters.
There were three occupants in the other vehicle, a black Chevrolet pickup. Only one of them was transported by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.
A trooper with the N.C. Highway Patrol stated that the driver of the burgundy pickup ran the stop sign at Stokes Road. The other pickup struck the vehicle as it entered Mizpah Road.
Agencies assisting with the accident: East Rockingham Fire Department, Cordova Fire Rescue, First Health Richmond EMS, Rockingham Rescue, Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, and the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
The accident is being investigated by the Highway Patrol.
