RALEIGH — Rep. Ben Moss has been appointed to leadership roles in the N.C. House of Representatives that reflect his rural background.

Moss, R-Richmond, was appointed by new House Speaker Destin Hall, R-Caldwell, to another term as chairman of the Wildlife Resources Committee. He was first appointed to chair that committee in 2023.

Hall also appointed Moss to serve as vice chairman of the Agriculture and Environment Committee.

According to a press release, those positions will make Moss “a leading voice on issues impacting North Carolina’s natural resources, conservation efforts, and agricultural industry,” helping to “shape policies that support conservation, outdoor recreation, and the state’s hunting and fishing heritage,” and “advance initiatives that protect North Carolina’s natural resources while ensuring the agricultural sector remains strong and sustainable.”

Moss, who also represents part of Moore County, will also serve on the following House committees:

  • Appropriations Committee
  • Appropriations, Transportation Subcommittee
  • Transportation Committee
  • Oversight Committee
  • Moss previously served as vice chairman of the Transportation Committee.

“I am honored to be entrusted with these leadership positions,” Moss said in a statement. “From protecting our natural resources to strengthening our transportation infrastructure, these committees play a critical role in shaping the future of North Carolina.

“I look forward to working with my colleagues to promote policies that support our economy, preserve our heritage, and enhance the quality of life for all North Carolinians.”

Moss was recently re-elected to his third term in the House. Before running for state office, he served on the Richmond County Board of Commissioners for a decade — the first Republican to serve on the board in more than a century.

Moss isn’t the only Richmond County politico associated with wildlife, as Rockingham City Manager Monty Crump is currently serving his second term as chairman of the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission.
