NASCAR teams to test at Rockingham Speedway

Posted

ROCKINGHAM — Race fans will have an opportunity to see drivers in two NASCAR series lap the oval at Rockingham Speedway ahead of the Easter weekend event.

Track Enterprises, official NASCAR event promoter for the Rock, is hosting a two-day organizational test for the Craftsman Truck Series and O’Reilly Auto Parts Series from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27 and Wednesday, Jan. 28.

There is currently no list of which teams will be on site, however many are expected from both series.

The test is open to the public with free admission and there will be food trucks on site both days.

Last year’s test saw 26 drivers in the Craftsman Truck Series and three in the then-Xfinity Series break 160 mph.

Ty Majeski had the fastest lap around the Rock at 166.567 mph in 21.983 seconds. Kaden Honeycutt had the second-fastest lap at 164.047 mph in 22.318.

Corey Day topped out at 162.431 mph for the highest speed in the car test and 161.964 mph in his truck run.

Before Tyler Ankrum took the checkered flag in the Black’s Tire 200, Jake Garcia won the pole at 153.469 mph. Carson Kvapil was the pole winner for the N.C. Education Lottery 250 with a speed of 149.536 mph.

Drivers in the ARCA Menards Series East will not be participating in the upcoming test, however that series held a private tire test at the track in mid-November.

Track Enterprises announced Thursday that Black’s Tire and the N.C. Education Lottery would be reprising their respective sponsorships of the races April 3-4.

Tickets are currently available at racetherock.com and will be sold at the track during the testing Jan. 27-28.
