NASCAR testing at the Rock rescheduled, shortened to 1 day

Posted

ROCKINGHAM — With the legendary oval track covered in several inches of snow, the NASCAR testing  at Rockingham Speedway has again been rescheduled and consolidated.

Race promoter Track Enterprises announced Sunday afternoon that the two-day testing session has been cut to one day and moved to 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6 due to “the ongoing effects from this weekend’s historic winter storm and the continuing impact on the surrounding areas.”

Teams from both the O’Reilly Auto Parts and Craftsman Truck series will be getting a feel for the track ahead of the N.C. Education Lottery 250 and the Black’s Tire 200 April 3-4. There will also be a 125-lap race in the ARCA Menards Series East that weekend.

Last year’s test saw 26 drivers in the Craftsman Truck Series and three in the then-Xfinity Series break 160 mph, with Ty Majeski securing the fastest lap around the Rock at 166.567 mph in 21.983 seconds in a truck.

This is the second time this year’s testing has been rescheduled because of winter weather.

Testing was originally scheduled for Jan. 27-28, but was postponed to Feb. 3-4 following a winter storm last weekend that brought sleet and freezing rain to the region.

The current forecast from the National Weather Service calls for mostly clear skies with a high near 50 on Friday.

Fans are invited to come watch from the Turn 4 grandstands.

Tickets for the April races are available at racetherock.com.
