NCDHHS: Full SNAP benefits should be loaded by Friday

ROCKINGHAM — Richmond County residents receiving SNAP benefits should receive their allocations by the end of the week following a congressional deal to “reopen” the federal government.

The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services announced Thursday afternoon that: “Approximately 600,000 households should see the full benefit amount loaded on their EBT cards by Friday.”

Last week, the agency reportedly loaded partial November benefits at approximately 65% of normal allocations.

“As soon as we received authorization from the federal government, we immediately began working to get benefits out to the nearly 1.4 million people who depend on SNAP to keep food on the table,” N.C. Health and Human Services Secretary Dev Sangvai said in a press release. “I am thankful that we will be able to make food benefits available on Friday, and to our team for their unwavering commitment to fight hunger.”

According to the Richmond County Health Department,  6,058 cases or households  were served locally through the Food and Nutrition Services program  in September, for $2.14 million in benefits.

Attorney General Jeff Jackson said,”“It was wrong and unlawful for the federal government to use our children as political pawns during the shutdown.”
