RALEIGH - Last week, NC Democratic Party Chair Wayne Goodwin stopped in Wayne, Cateret and Craven County on the third leg of the NCDP’s rural listening tour to chat with eastern North Carolinians:
In Wayne County, Chair Goodwin spoke with voters about much needed rural infrastructure improvements, such as water, sewage, and road infrastructure, and access to affordable health care for all.
In Craven County, residents shared with Chair Goodwin their concerns about how policies in Raleigh and DC will hurt New Bern, specifically how President Trump’s trade war will hammer nearby farmers and their community.
In Carteret County, Chair Goodwin sat down at the iconic Sanitary Fish Market and Restaurant in Morehead City to discuss access to capital for small businesses in rural areas, helping local economies through prioritizing rural broadband infrastructure, and supporting small town main street.
A memo sent out this week outlines how the NC Democratic Party is on the offensive to break the Republican supermajority in November. While Democrats across North Carolina are fired up and ready to go, Republicans are facing a midterm election marred by an unpopular president, a lethargic base, and their transparent attempts to rig the system against every day North Carolinians. From the memo:
“Republicans are facing a daunting political reality: their attempts to rig the system to stay in power, coupled with a historically unpopular President, have left them on the wrong side of their constituents. Republicans are opening the midterm election cycle on the defensive, facing internal pressure as their base grows frustrated with their inability to deliver on campaign promises and external pressure from a unified and energetic Democratic grassroots."
Together with Break the Majority and Democratic House and Senate members, the NCDP launched the first episode in our new “Breaking the Majority” video series. The series highlights Democratic legislators, Democratic enthusiasm, and the importance of breaking the Republican supermajority.
Tomorrow night, the NC Democratic Party will host the 2018 Unity Dinnerfeaturing Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Governor Roy Cooper, with a special video tribute to Senator Kay Hagan for her years of service to North Carolina.
“The Unity Dinner is an annual celebration of Democratic values, from supporting public education and protecting our environment to fighting for justice and equality. We are honored Senator Klobuchar, a true champion for women across the country, will join us as we celebrate the accomplishments of Democratic women, honor Senator Kay Hagan, and build on the Democratic enthusiasm heading into the pivotal 2018 election.”
