Alex “Rudy” Larue Eaves, 75, of Rockingham, passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

He was born April 26, 1951, in Richmond County, son of the late James Elmer Eaves and Ethel Victoria Nuttall Eaves.

Rudy served in the Army National Guard for more than 13 years.  In previous years, when his health allowed, he attended New Hope Free Will Baptist Church in Rockingham, serving as deacon and Sunday school teacher.  He loved telling jokes and making people laugh.  Rudy also enjoyed playing Solitaire and watching old westerns on television.  Of the many things he enjoyed in life, his greatest love was for his family, especially his children and grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Glenn Eaves; brothers, Jim Eaves, Bobby Eaves, Shorty Eaves and Mickey Eaves; and his sister, Joyce Lisk.

Left to cherish Rudy’s memories are his children, Glori Eaves Frye (Larry), Shannon Haywood (Matt) and Brian Eaves, all of Rockingham; grandchildren, Wyatt Haywood (Katy), Gloria Schrenker (D.J.), Carleigh Strickland (McKinley), Corey Eaves, Gabby Eaves and Landyn Frye; six great-grandchildren; and special niece, Annette Maness.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 from 4-5 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, Hamlet.

A Celebration of Life service will follow visitation, beginning at 5 p.m., with Pastor Larry Frye officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Richmond County Special Olympics, in honor of his grandchildren, Corey and Gabby, and in memory of his grandson, Glenn, at sonc.net/local-programs/richmond-county.

Harrington Funeral Home & Crematory is serving the Eaves family.
