OBITUARY: Anne Edvalson Thrower

Anne Edvalson Thrower, 78, of Rockingham, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Oct. 3, 2025 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Born on Jan. 27, 1947 in La Grande, Oregon, Anne was the beloved daughter of Herman Moroni Edvalson and Grace Halling Edvalson.

Anne grew up on an industrious farm, with her parents and siblings, in La Grande, Oregon.  She went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Library Science from Brigham Young University and worked as a librarian for more than 30 years with Sandhills Regional Library Systems.  Anne had a strong love of literature.

Throughout her life, Anne was known for her quiet strength, unwavering kindness, and deep devotion to her family and faith. She lived a life rooted in grace and compassion, and her presence brought comfort and warmth to all who knew her.  She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where she loved the gospel of the church and served in numerous capacities including organist and pianist.  

After making her home in Rockingham,  Anne became a cherished part of the community. Whether through her daily acts of generosity, her loyalty to loved ones, or her gentle wisdom, she made a lasting impact on those around her.  She unselfishly volunteered her time with the Richmond County Historical Society and, after retirement, volunteered with FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital-Richmond, medical records.  Her hobbies, in which she loved and found important, was being an avid quilter, designer and seamstress.

Anne is preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Grace Edvalson; her husband, Richard Reid Thrower; granddaughter, Abigail Thrower; brother, Lars Eric Edvalson; and nephew, Myshkin Miller.

She is survived by her children, Reid Thrower, and wife Brianna, of Rockingham, Allena Thrower and Briana Thrower, also of Rockingham; grandchildren, Elisabeth Thrower and Dawson Kelly; sisters, Karen Mae Hill of Canoga Park, California, and Kathleen Almquist of La Grande, Oregon; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate Anne’s life will be held at a later date.

Anne will be remembered for the love she gave so freely, the quiet dignity with which she lived, and the lasting imprint she leaves on the hearts of those who knew her.
