Anne McKay Shaw, 93, of Hamlet passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family Sept. 22, 2025.
Anne was a daughter of the late Hudson and Sadie McKay and was born May 29, 1932 in Marston.
Along with her parents, Anne is preceded in death by her brother, Hillary McKay Jr.; her husband Ray Caudle Shaw; and two great-grandchildren, Alec Shaw and Lexi Hooper.
Anne attended Hoffman High School but would graduate in her senior year at Peace College in Raleigh. After this, she attended Women's College in Greensboro for two years before transferring to the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond obtaining her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. Anne would later attend UNC Charlotte to obtain her Masters of Science Degree in Nursing.
Anne was a well-known and beloved individual in her community. She served for many years as a Registered Nurse and as a nursing instructor. She served as a member on the Hospice Board and ultimately as chairperson. She was a member of the Retired Nurses Association, the Lions Club, the Red Hat Society, and several card clubs. Anne was a very active member of her church, Fellowship United Methodist, where she sang in the choir. She was very family-oriented and was a mother of five. She was a wonderful woman, daughter, wife, mother, friend, nurse and leaves behind a loving family and many friends to cherish her memory.
Anne is survived by her children, Harry Hudson Shaw (Beryl), Cynthia Shaw Phillips (Travis), Susan Shaw Hooper (Keith), John Paul Shaw (Janice), and Elizabeth Shaw McDougald (Bobby); grandchildren Dorothy Cassidy, lan Shaw, Derek Hooper, Alex Hooper, Caleb Hooper, Shelby Pollard, Will Mossman, Brandon Birchfield, David Owenby, Kellie Braswell, Blake Owenby, Daniel Perry, Jacob Perry, Kelli McDougald Smith and Kevin McDougald; great-grandchildren Bradley Shaw, Lydia Shaw, Addison Cassidy, Aubrey Cassidy, Allie Owenby, Waylon Braswell, Sophia Perry, Ramey Smith and Mila Smith.
The family would like to thank her very special caregivers, Ms. Ciara Bryant and Ms. Rosa Cornwall, as well as the staff and providers at Richmond County Hospice for their kind, professional, and compassionate care.
The family will receive friends for visitation Friday, Sept. 26, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Watson-King Funeral Home in Hamlet. A funeral service will be held Saturday morning, Sept. 27, at 11 a.m. at Fellowship United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dan Blair officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond Co. Memorial Park.
