Anne Steadman Poe, 95, of Rockingham, passed into the hands of her Lord and Savior in the home of her childhood in the early morning of Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024.
Born Feb. 14, 1929, in Anson County, she was the daughter of the late Horace Dean and Anne Marie (Covington) Steadman, and sister of the late Horace Dean Steadman Jr.
She is now in her Heavenly home with her beloved husband of 74 years, Billy, her daughter Beverly, and two children lost in infancy.
Ann is survived by her son-in-law, David McCain, his wife Louisa; granddaughters, Mary Katherine McCain and Abigail Marie Heavner; nieces Deanna Steadman Bruzzese and Marydeth Steadman Judge, and their respective families.
Ann’s life was that of a faithful homemaker, enthusiastic companion with Billy, and a loving, devoted mother and grandmother to Bev and her family. She is remembered by many of Rockingham as their Kindergarten teacher at “Wee Wisdom Hall.” Ann was a lifelong and dedicated member of Rockingham First Methodist Church and participated with several ladies’ groups in town throughout her life.
Ann was a Class of 1947 graduate of Rockingham High School and Graduate of Greensboro College in Interior Design. She was honored as a Greensboro College Beauty several years.
Ann was a model of grace, with a classic sense of style and tradition. She possessed a strong mind and strong morals. She was a kind, warm, caring, giving, and loving person- a beautiful person and soul.
Ann loved her mornings and her days as she lived and was inspired by the glory of God’s world about us. She loved and enjoyed nurturing her beautiful flowers, being with life-long friends and family, joining Billy at their farm with the bird dogs and horses, and just being in the peace of God’s creation. Even as her life on earth was drawing to a close, she always looked at the sky. Ann loved blue skies and sunshine. She loved the Lord and never needed for anything. She never thought or wanted new, she was happy to have been blessed with enough.
The family wishes to express sincere love and gratitude to the entire family of McKinley Brewington for their friendship over many years; to her special neighbor and friend, Denise Sullivan for everything; to caregivers, Mabel Brewington, Stacie McMillan and Alfreda Brewington for their continued love and kindness; to the Richmond County Hospice team who have helped ease her last days here on earth; and all her many friends who have held her in good thoughts and prayers.
