Ashleigh Seymour, treasured husband, father, Papa, brother-in-law and friend passed away peacefully in his home on March 24, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Ashleigh graduated from Hamlet High School in 1959, served in the U.S. Air Force and, after working for the railroad for 10 years, went back to school. He attended Richmond Technical College and Appalachian State University where he graduated in 1977 with a degree in Drafting and Industrial Arts. Ashleigh began his teaching career at Richmond Senior High School that same year. He loved working with students and was a positive role model for them, many of whom became good friends.
While teaching at Richmond, he met his future wife, Ginger, the love of his life, and they were married for 45 blessed years.
Ashleigh was an avid sports fan. He grew up playing tennis at the courts on Spring Street near his home. In high school, he played football and basketball and in later life played golf. After attending Carolina Basketball Camp while in high school he became a devoted Carolina Tar Heels fan. He and Ginger spent many days going to Carolina football games and later, watching games on TV. Whether it was football, basketball or baseball, win or lose, he was Carolina true blue.
Ashleigh also loved the years he spent showing horses and caring for them. Later, after building a house on Ledbetter Lake, his constant companions were his boxers. He loved his dogs and tolerated Ginger’s cats.
Ashleigh grew up attending First Presbyterian Church of Hamlet but after marriage he became a member of ,and was active in the life of, Marks Creek Presbyterian Church. He participated in the Men of the Church, Men’s Sunday school class, served as a deacon and was always at work days. Ashleigh and Ginger led a Bible study class for many years and also prepared the weekly bulletins.
Ashleigh was predeceased by his parents Ashleigh Sr. and Laura Seymour.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Ginger); daughter, Maria Huntley and her husband Joe; son, Scott Medlin and granddaughter, Lexi Medlin; sisters-in-law, Polly Cobb, Barbara Brearley, Linda Hawkins and her husband Flukie, and Cathey Richardson and her husband Joe; many nieces and nephews; bonus granddaughter, Taylor Bryant; and many, many friends.
Ashleigh will be missed in many ways; his wit, the twinkle in his eyes, his way of making you feel special and always finding a way to make you laugh. To many, Ashleigh made a difference and to his family he was the difference…a life well lived and well loved.
The family is grateful to Richmond County Hospice for their compassionate care and support during Ashleigh’s final days.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham. The funeral service will be on Friday, March 28, 2025 at 3 p.m. at Marks Creek Presbyterian Church in Hamlet. Reception will follow the service.
