Barbara Brooks Chappell, 80, of Hamlet, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024 at her home.
She was born May 24, 1944, in Hamlet, daughter of the late Kenneth Woodson Brooks and Ruth Horton Brooks.
Barbara was an adventurous and fun lady. She not only was supportive of her own children, but she was there for any children that needed her, whether family or not. She would pack up the kids and take them to the movies and share her time with them. She was loving and nurturing, always taking care of her family. She raised her own children and helped raise her grandchildren, and she was the best Mom and Grandmother.
Barbara was also a spiritual lady and loved the Lord. In previous years, prior to her sickness, she was active in church. She will be dearly missed by all that loved her.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Michael Thompson and Glenn Chappell; daughter-in-law, Teresa Thompson; and sister, Lolita Hayes.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Morris (Buck) Chappell; daughters, Angela Chappell Bass (Jamie) of Laurel Hill, Shay Chappell (Nicholas) of Marston, Shannon Chappell (Gary) of Hamlet, and like a son, Michael Ashby; grandchildren, David Lee Thompson, Ashley Thompson, Tierra Thompson, Angelica Efird (John Michael), Benjamin Bass, Mark Hutchison Jr., Marcus “Dillon” Hutchison, Christian Kane Chappell, and Lucian Bane Chappell; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Terry Brooks (Ann), Ronnie Brooks, and Randy Brooks (Sharon); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 20, 2024 from 6-8 p.m. at Harrington Funeral Home, Hamlet.
The funeral service will be Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Harrington Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene Alexander officiating. Entombment will be held private at Richmond County Memorial Park.
