OBITUARY: Betty McQuage Carlisle

Betty McQuage Carlisle, 79, of Hamlet, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at Richmond County Hospice Haven.

She was born in Charlotte, on May 20, 1945 to Walter and Martha Lay. Betty was loved and adopted in 1950 by Bill and Lela McQuage.

Betty was a homemaker and took pride in taking care of her husband and children. No one ever left her home hungry. She was known throughout the neighborhood for her homemade biscuits and fudge.

She loved music and singing. Often there were impromptu concerts in her home when someone came and they all gathered around the piano to sing. She loved dancing and won many dancing contests in her younger days.

Along with her biological and adoptive parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Joshua Warden; great-grandson, Kian Chavis; and special granddog, Tinka.

Left to cherish Betty’s memories are her husband of 63 years, Robert Eugene Carlisle Sr. of the home; children, Jamie Carlisle Woodside (Harold) of Iron Station, Marcy Kirk (Richard) of Hamlet, and Robby Carlisle of Wagram; grandchildren, Jeremia Warden Wells, T.J. Sweatt, Amber Carlisle Chavis (Gary), Shae Stewart, Tabitha Carlisle Whitley (Kenny), Jessie Blake (Kenny Felts), Kellyn Carlisle (Blake Elvis), Jordyn Blake and Rylan Carlisle; great-grandchildren, Sebastian Caudle, Nico Wells, Tristan Chavis, Drake Byers, Nolan Chavis, Liam Sweatt, Rhett Currie, Jackson Warden, Rosemary Schneider, Leiden Sweatt, Wesley Felts, Calliope Felts and Reign Schneider; and siblings, Terri Winecoff, Linda McQuage Simmons (Sammy) and Jimmy Gibson.

A time of visitation will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025 from 4-6 p.m. at Harrington Funeral Home, Hamlet.

The family wishes to thank Richmond County Hospice for being kind and caring, and making such a trying time manageable.
