Billy Ray Steele Jr., of Hamlet, passed away Friday, Oct. 11, 2024.
Billy was born Dec. 1, 1969 in Richmond County. He was a son of the late Billy Ray Steele and Mary Louise Paul.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Kevin Ray Lundy.
Billy Ray was an avid sports fan. He rooted for Duke and the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed coaching local youth baseball and modifying lowrider trucks in his spare time. Billy was a phenomenal cook and loved doing so. Billy Ray was an active member of the Sons of the American Legion, Squadron 147, of Rockingham for 12 years. He was a loving brother and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Billy is survived by his brother, Robert Steele (Levy) of Hamlet; sisters, Georgia Ann Frye of Supply and Judy Coats of Hamlet; nieces and nephews, Robert Lee Jr. of Dallas, Texas, Stephen Michael-Lee (Cate), Colt, Khole, Max and Brooke Steele, Howie Leviner, Doug Frye (Amanda) of Fayetteville, and Nicole Whitman (Stuart) of Houston, Texas, Angie Bruns of Clayton, and Ami Greene of Burlington; and uncle, Mitchell Steele (Pat). Billy Ray also leaves behind beloved family friend, Gail Tunstall and her husband Zan “Grumpy.”
A memorial service will be held in Billy Ray’s honor, Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024, at 6 until 7 p.m. at Watson-King Funeral Home in Hamlet with the Rev. David Williams officiating.
