OBITUARY: Charles Jackson Hatfield

Posted

Charles Jackson Hatfield, a dignified, Southern gentleman, slipped quietly away on the beautiful morning of April 11, 2026 and entered Heaven where he now is surrounded by comfort, peace and joy.

He was the husband of Hallie for 38 years, daddy to Shara, father-in-law to Andy, Grampy to Anna and Wyles, and true companion to his rambunctious new puppy Elly May.

Known to all as "Jackie," he is remembered as an intelligent, humorous, and caring man who had a quick wit and was an unbelievable story teller. His mind was sharp, his laugh was infectious, and his generosity was endearing.

Jackie was a veteran of the United States Army National Guard, a member of both the Hamlet Masonic Lodge No. 532 and the Sandhills Shriners Club, a conductor for CSX railroad for 42 years, and a staff member at Watson-King Funeral Homes. He was also the director for the annual car show at the Seaboard Festival for numerous years and was a regular volunteer at the Railroad Museum.

Jackie was a proud resident of Hamlet all of his life until 2025 when he and Hallie relocated to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He enjoyed classic cars, racing, traveling with his friends, and socializing at the VFW, American Legion and the Pool Room.

At Jackie’s request, donations can be made in lieu of flowers to Richmond County Hospice, 1119 U.S. Hwy. 1 N Rockingham, NC 28379; or First Baptist Church of Hamlet, 208 Charlotte St. Hamlet, NC 28345, the church he loved.

The funeral will be held at First Baptist Church of Hamlet on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at 11 o’clock in the morning with Dr. Allison Farrah officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond County Memorial Park.

Online condolences may be made at watson-kingfuneralhome.com. Watson-King Funeral Home in Hamlet is serving the Hatfield family.
