Charles “Papa” Michael O’Neal Sr., 63, of Rockingham, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024.
Charlie was born Nov. 16, 1960 in Rockingham to Letha Greene O’Neal and the late William David O’Neal Sr.
He owned and operated a sawmill with his wife, Debi, for many years.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Debi Moore O’Neal, to whom he was married for 33 blissful years; children, Charlie Michael O’Neal Jr., Matthew Thomas O’Neal (Lisa), Gavin Conner O’Neal, Carlie O’Neal; stepchildren, Heather McLaughlin (Neil) and Krystie Lynn Grooms; step-grandchildren, Rain Locklear, Chayton Locklear, Brandon Rankin (Breanna); grandchildren, Conner Miles, Piper Thomas, Nora Parker and Matthew Ryder; great-grandchildren, Oliver Rankin and Brianna Locklear; mother, Letha Greene O’Neal; brothers, David O’Neal Jr. (Chris), Don O’Neal and Jack O’Neal (Kim); sister-in-law, Debbie O’Neal; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and his beloved pet boxer, Douglas.
He is preceded in death by his father, William David O’Neal, Sr.; and brother, Mark Douglas O’Neal.
Charlie was a friend to many and known by the nickname “Papa.” This was a tradition of he and his wife Debi, known as “Mama.” Everyone knew and loved Papa and Mama. He shared his love of fishing with his brothers where they made many memories through the years together. He also loved playing and singing with his guitar and cherished his family dearly.
Funeral service will be held at Beverly Hills Baptist Church, Monday, Oct. 28, 2024, with a visitation at 1 p.m. and funeral at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Jason Lutz officiating. Burial will follow at Greene Family Cemetery in Ellerbe.
