OBITUARY: Charlie Grafton McDonald

Charlie “Buck” Grafton McDonald, 84, of Hamlet, passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2025.

Buck was born in Richmond County on May 18, 1941 to the late Willie Grafton McDonald and Sallie Mae Lee McDonald.

Buck is fondly remembered as a funny, witty, and straightforward man. He loved flowers and enjoyed collecting antiques throughout his life. He spent most of his working life in construction, working until retirement. His love of carpentry work showed through the mark that he left in many homes and businesses throughout the county. His family will deeply miss his presence and the joy he brought to their lives.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, W.C. McDonald, John McDonald and James McDonald; sister, Hattie Bates; and special friend, Trudy Harris.

Left to cherish his memories are his sisters, Darlene McDonald of Hamlet, Brenda Clifton of Rockingham, and Linda Overton (Bobby) of Hamlet; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family; and his beloved dog, Bruiser.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Harrington Funeral Home in Hamlet, with the Rev. Eddie Hildreth officiating.

Burial will take place at Marks Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Hamlet.

At other times, the family will receive visitors at the home of his niece, Anne Hildreth on Wildwood Avenue in Hamlet.
