OBITUARY: Claude Levern Player

Claude Levern Player, 69, of Rockingham, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 4, 2025 at Richmond County Hospice Haven.

He was born Oct. 15, 1955, in Darlington, South Carolina, son of the late Archie Lee Player Sr. and Rachel Chandler Player.

Levern served our country in the United States Navy. He worked as a heating and air technician prior to retirement. Levern enjoyed many things in life including NASCAR, with Kevin Harvick being his favorite driver, and the Washington Redskins. He loved spending time watching old westerns and Star Trek.

Levern was an animal lover, especially loving his cats. But above all, he loved his family, specifically his sister who was like a mother to him, Peggy, affectionately known as “MawMaw,” and his great-great nephew Asher, who Levern always called “Julio.” He will be dearly missed by all of his family.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Archie Lee Player Jr.; and sister, Mary Player Overby.

Levern is survived by his sisters, Peggy Leonard (Olin) of Lexington, Phyllis Scarboro (David) of Rockingham, and Dianna Lynn Blanton (Charles) of Concord; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 7, 2025 from 4-5 p.m. at Harrington Funeral Home, Hamlet.

The funeral service will begin immediately following visitation, at 5 p.m., in the chapel of Harrington Funeral Home with Pastor Marvin Taylor Jr. officiating. Burial will be held private.
