Danetta Robinson, 70, of Rockingham, North Carolina, completed her journey on this earth before sunrise on Sunday, Sept. 13 much in the same way she lived her life — peacefully and carried by the love of her family and closest friends.
She moved gently through this world, much like the water in a garden, quietly nourishing those she walked with so that they too may bloom.
She was the daughter of the late Wilburn and Pauline Dutton, and a graduate of the 1974 class of Richmond Senior High School.
Danetta was a cherished mother, sister, friend and grandmother. "Granny" was her favorite title.
Her professional career began as a social worker with the Department of Social Services after completing her undergraduate studies at the University of Tennessee. Later she graduated from the University of North Carolina as a proud Tar Heel with a master’s degree in clinical social work. She continued her service to others as a clinical social worker and psychotherapist working with the Children’s Developmental Services Agency, and in her own private therapy practice. Danetta was in every sense of the word a helper and healer. It was not only seen in her professional career but woven into her very spirit. Her kindness and strength leave a legacy that will be carried forward by all who knew her.
Her story will be celebrated by those who loved her most, her children and grandchildren. She is remembered by her daughter Katie Robinson and wife Chloe, grandchildren Harper and Calix; her son Bill Robinson, grandchildren Dean and Juila; her older sister Glenda Thomas;and countless other friends and family members.
Danetta was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Dutton; sister, Brenda Dutton; and twin sister, Danita Jordan.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages those who loved her to continue her legacy of kindness by supporting organizations who serve the community in her memory, including memorials in her honor with Richmond County Hospice & Hospice Haven, 1119 N. U.S. Hwy. 1 Rockingham, NC 28379.
Danetta wished for her journey home to be celebrated much as she lived, in quiet gratitude for her life full of love. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
