OBITUARY: Elizabeth Gibson

Posted

It is with great sadness but profound gratitude for her life that we announce the passing of Elizabeth “Liz” Gibson. She lived a life of 55 years full of love, laughter, and resilience, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Liz was born Aug. 7, 1969 in Rockingham, daughter of Judith Hedgepeth Gibson and the late Norman Thomas Gibson.

Liz blessed her family with her boundless joy, pure heart, and bright smile. She was a beloved daughter, cherished sister, and a friend to all. She shared her special gift of unconditional love with everyone she met.

Liz had a unique ability to light up a room with her infectious laugh, playfulness, and sometimes devilish sense of humor. She loved spending time with her family, friends, and caregivers who were the center of her world in Charlotte. She adored music, putting puzzles together, painting, and especially coloring!

Lizzie had a special love for dogs, who seemed to know instinctively how gentle and compassionate she was. Whether she was kissing her furry friends, sneaking them treats, or cuddling up with them on the couch, her connection with animals was one of pure love. She was a great helper with daily tasks at home and loved to bake with Mom in the kitchen.

Her days were filled with compassion, kindness, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life. Whether it was celebrating birthdays, her favorite holidays Christmas, Halloween, or 4th of July with all the décor and sweets or sharing a quiet moment coloring and putting together puzzles. Sweet Liz taught all who knew her the true meaning of love and acceptance blowing kisses your way when you least expected it.

Liz was preceded in death by her father, Norman Thomas Gibson; sister, Martha Stewart Gibson; and grandparents, Nathan and Frances Gibson, and Lonnie Jr. and Corinna Hedgepeth.

She is survived by her loving family, including her mother, Judith Gibson of Rockingham; sister, Joanna Glidewell (Brian) of Summerfield; nieces, Hannah and Emily; special aunt and uncle, Sarah and Julian Hawes; aunts, uncles, and favorite cousins, Dina and Bob Boorda, who spoiled her with love and attention. She is reunited in peace with her daddy, younger sister, and grandparents.

Visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025 from 11 a.m.-noon at First United Methodist Church, Hamlet.

The funeral service will begin immediately following the visitation, at noon, with Pastor Dan Blair officiating. Interment will commence at Mary Love Cemetery, Hamlet.

Memorials may be made in Liz’s memory to: First United Methodist Church, 300 Charlotte St., Hamlet, NC 28345.

The family would like to thank Liz’s group home family in Charlotte for their care and dedication. Their daily love and encouragement brought her pure happiness and courage to walk through the struggles, grow in independence, and giggle with her mischievousness.

Liz will forever be remembered for her courage, warmth, and the light she brought into the world. Her legacy of love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. In the sure and certain hope of the resurrection we ground our faith and place our trust in Christ. We commend to Almighty God the soul of Elizabeth Gibson. Eternal rest, grant to her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
