Geldia Louise “Jill” Fountain Simmons, 86, of Rockingham, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025, at Richmond County Hospice Haven.
Jill was born on Oct. 12, 1938, in Montgomery County, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Ivey and Mattie Overton Fountain.
Jill spent much of her life working in the textile industry, where she was known for her strong work ethic and dedication. After retiring from textiles, she began a second career at FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital, where she enjoyed greeting familiar faces and offering kindness to everyone she met. Her compassionate nature and love for helping others made her a bright presence in every room.
Outside of work, Jill found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved tending to her beautiful flower gardens, cooking family recipes, and hosting holiday gatherings that brought everyone together. She was known for her warm hospitality, her laughter that could fill a house, and her generous heart. Jill had a kind and gentle spirit — a true giver of her time and love to all who knew her.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2025 at noon at Richmond Co. Memorial Park with the Rev. James Mims officiating.
Jill was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Gena Simmons; and her brothers, Darold Fountain and Paul Fountain.
She is survived by her loving sons, Ronnie Simmons (Terry) and Kenneth Simmons (Hilda); four cherished grandchildren, Kenny Simmons (Leslie), Karrah Darling (Daniel), Chastity Noble (Eric) and Candace Simmons (Lara); and two brothers, Harold Fountain and Charles Fountain (Loretta). Jill’s legacy of love, strength, and kindness will continue to live on through her family and all who were blessed to know her.
