OBITUARY: George Graham Inman

Mr. George Graham Inman, 104 and 11/12, passed away on Nov. 30, 2023 at his residence in Still Hopes Retirement Community in West Columbia, South Carolina.

He was born Dec. 25, 1918 in Fairmont, son of Robert and Maggie Davis Inman. He was the 10th child in his family and adored his older brothers and sisters who provided for him in so many ways after his parents died while he was quite young.

Mr. Inman graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1941 with a BS in Pharmacy. After completing an internship in Washington, D.C. with People’s Drugs, he entered the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served on the USS Funston and the USS Newberry where he participated in invasions in the Mediterranean and the Pacific. He served until 1946.

After the war, Mr. Inman worked for Standard Pharmacy in Wilmington where he met George Honeycutt and the two bought their own store in Rockingham — Federal Pharmacy. They were partners in business and good friends for more than 30 years, until Mr. Honeycutt’s passing. For over fifty years Mr. Inman was also a member of Rockingham Masonic Lodge No. 495, Oasis Shriner’s Temple in Charlotte, Scottish Rite Mason Valley of Charlotte, Orient of N.C.

Mr. Inman was pre-deceased by his wife of 57 years, Ruth Spangler Inman, in 2001; and a child, Ralph Stanley Inman, in 1950.

He is survived by his remaining three children and their spouses: Stephen G. Inman (Meg) of Chapel Hill; J. Keith Inman (Susan) of Wilmington; and Jane Inman Allen (Kellum) of Columbia, South Carolina. “Pa Graham” was blessed with six beloved grandchildren and spouses: Bradley G. Inman (Jana), Scott G. Inman (Lila), Jennifer Allen Butler (Charlie), David K. Allen (Samantha), Justin K. Inman, and Paige E. Inman; as well as, six great-grandchildren: Connor Inman, Jake Inman, Emma Butler, Josh Butler, Wade Allen and Ellery Allen. He also enjoyed the love and concern of his wonderful nieces and nephews.

The family will hold a private, graveside service at East Side Cemetery in Rockingham.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Rockingham and Still Hopes Retirement Community of Columbia, South Carolina.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staffs of Midlands Internal Medicine Associates and Still Hopes Retirement Community for their tireless and dedicated service in caring for Graham during his years in South Carolina.
