Harold “Jody” Steen, 77, beloved husband, father, Papa, brother and friend, departed this earth for his heavenly home on Saturday, March 21, 2026.

Born March 30, 1948 to the late Irene and J.B. Steen, Jody was a simple man and had a love for the outdoors. As a young man, he enjoyed racing dirt tracks and go-karts and from there his love of Chevrolets began.

He loved rabbit hunting, fishing trips to the coast, gardening, and tinkering with his Farmall tractors and chainsaws. He was affectionately known as the sausage man and enjoyed processing that good “Honeybell” sausage up until recent years.

But above all, his family was his most prized possession.

Jody retired from Kordsa USA in Laurel Hill after 42 years of service. His work ethic was unmatched.

Left to cherish his memory, the love of his life, his wife, Gerline English Steen of whom he was married to for 57 years; son, Sidney Steen Sr. of Bennettsville, South Carolina; daughters, Terrie Steen of the home and Marcia Floyd (Al) of Hamlet; grandchildren, Sidney Steen Jr., Jessica Steen and Jennifer Steen, who were their Papa’s pride and joy; great-grandson, Sawyer Rex; neighbor, sidekick and right-hand man, Nolan Steen, who affectionately called him Poppa Jody; sister, Delia Steen of Bennettsville, South Carolina; brother, Ronnie Steen (Elaine) of Hamlet; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

Jody was preceded in death by his parents, listed above; and brothers, James “George” Steen and J.C. Steen.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 from 6-8 p.m. at Harrington Funeral Home, Hamlet.
