James “Jimmy” Benjamin Ussery, 72, of Rockingham, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family in his home, Thursday, April 10, 2025.
James is a son of the late W.T. and Flora Ussery, born May 30, 1952, in Richmond County.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by a stepson, Brannon Taylor.
James worked off and on in construction from a very young age and specialized in carpentry. James also worked for CSX Railroad for several years. James was an upbeat man that loved to make others laugh and smile. He was a family man that was dutifully devoted to his family, especially his grandchildren.
James is survived by beloved wife, Carol Ussery, to whom he was married to for 34 years; children, Brynn Gamble and Jamie Hancock; stepson Glenn Taylor; grandchildren, Kayla Hill, Kenzie Roberts, Blake Gamble, Owen Taylor, Tanner Taylor and Brannon Taylor; great-grandchildren, Jordan Hill and Jocelyn Hill; and siblings Martha Ussery Brigman, William Thomas “Pete” Ussery, Robert Lee “Pistol” Ussery, Phyllis Graham, Joseph Charles “Joe” Ussery, Edward Lewis “Ed” Ussery, John Michael “Mike” Ussery, Nancy Ussery Newsom and Henry Lynn “Bo” Ussery.
A celebration of life will be held at McDonald Baptist Church Sunday, April 13, 2025, at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Jimmy Branton Officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
