James Eugene Mathis, 80, of Rockingham passed away Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2026 at Richmond County Hospice Haven.
He was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey, a son of the late John and Elizabeth Mathis.
James served in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam War. He was retired truck driver and loved his Harley-Davidson motorcycles. He loved his family, especially his wife Linda and son Hunter.
A celebration of his life will be Friday, Sept. 25, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham, with the Rev. James Mims, with military honors to follow.
Surviving, his wife, Linda Houle Mathis; sons, James W. Mathis and Hunter Stopp; stepchildren, Kevin Stopp, Terry Stopp and Destiny Stopp; and 13 grandchildren.
