James “J.D.” Hudson, 79, of Hamlet passed away surrounded by his loving family, Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025.
He was born Feb. 23, 1946, to parents Luther William Hudson Sr. and Carrie Hudson English.
Along with his parents, James is preceded in death by his siblings, Luther Hudson Jr., Peggy Courtney, Billie Bullard and Mary Ellen Norton.
J.D. served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and following his military career would become a meat cutter, which he did for over 40 years. He loved to travel with his wife in retirement and was passionate about gardening and fishing.
J.D. is survived by his loving wife, Retta Laurie Hudson; stepchildren Alicia Magee and Jason Fowler; a sister, Ruby Roscoe; and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom will miss him dearly.
The family will receive friends for visitation from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon at Watson-King Funeral Home in Hamlet. A memorial service with military honors will be held at a later date.
