James Michael “Mike” Covington, 82, of Rockingham, completed his earthly journey on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026 at Hospice Haven in Rockingham.
Mike was born May 8, 1943 in Richmond County, a son of the late James Edwin and Katherine Louise Morgan Covington.
Mike proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He for many years was a car salesman and retired from Bowles Furniture Company.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two of his children, Kelli Samantha Covington Osborne and Cheston Brian Covington.
Surviving are his wife, Sharon Hinkle Covington; children, Tracy Covington Hamilton (Tim) and James Michael Covington Jr. (Allen Cribb); grandchildren, Lucas Hamilton (Hannah), Lauren Hamilton Alley (John), Dustin Osborne, Tianna Smith (Bradley), Dillon Covington (Julie), Megan Covington, Morgan Covington; great-grandchildren, Addison Grace Smith, Liam Hamilton, Ada Jane Alley; his sister, Barbara Homesley; stepchildren, Thomas Weatherford (Karen) and Levi Chavis (Judy), step-grandchildren, Thomas Heath Weatherford (Megan), Jennifer Singletary (Robbie), Brittany Rector (Josh), Courtney Cooper (Casey), Kaitlyn Chavis (Robert), Timothy Chavis; step- great-grandchildren, Hayden Rose Weatherford, Harper Jane Weatherford and Carter Cooper.
The family will receive friends from 11:45 a.m.–12:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2026 at Mount Olive Baptist Church with funeral services to follow at 1 p.m. The Rev. Brian Blackwell will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in Eastside Cemetery.
